More about Hengifoss
Hengifoss is part of the Hengifossá River, which originates from the Hengifossvatn lake. The waterfall’s rock formations are a result of volcanic activity, evident from its distinct basalt pillars and red strata. Visitors can reach Hengifoss via a well-marked trail starting from a parking area, which takes around an hour to hike. The trail also passes the smaller Litlanesfoss waterfall, known for its basalt columns.
