Hjorleifshofdi is named after Hjorleifur Hrodmarsson, a Norse settler and companion of Ingolfur Arnarson, the first permanent Norse settler in Iceland. The promontory is accessible via a short hike of about 3 kilometers from the Ring Road, offering views of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and surrounding landscapes. The region is geologically active, with formations dating back to volcanic eruptions.
