Vienna Gasometers
The Vienna Gasometers are four former gas storage tanks located in Simmering, Vienna, Austria. Built between 1896 and 1899, these cylindrical structures once served as gas storage facilities but were repurposed into residential and commercial spaces in the late 1990s.
More about Vienna Gasometers
The Vienna Gasometers were originally constructed to supply town gas for Vienna's street lighting and domestic use. Each gasometer is approximately 70 meters in diameter and 66 meters in height. After decommissioning in 1984, they were redesigned by prominent architects, transforming them into multifunctional complexes featuring apartments, offices, and a shopping mall. Accessible by Vienna's U3 subway line, the gasometers are a notable example of industrial heritage preservation.
