Megala Meteora, also known as the Great Meteoron Monastery, is located in central Greece, atop one of the towering rock formations in Meteora. This Eastern Orthodox monastery was established in the 14th century and is the largest of the Meteora monasteries.

The Great Meteoron Monastery was founded by Athanasios the Meteorite in 1340 and later expanded by his successor, John Uros. It is perched on a sandstone pillar over 600 meters above sea level. Access to the monastery is via a series of steps carved into the rock, and it features notable frescoes and an impressive refectory. Visitors can explore the complex, which includes a church, museum, and various outbuildings, offering a glimpse into monastic life.
