The idea for Leonardo's Horse originated in 1482 when Ludovico Sforza commissioned Leonardo da Vinci to create the largest equestrian statue in the world. Although da Vinci's project was never completed, the sculpture was finally realized in 1999 by American sculptor Nina Akamu.
