The Christ the King monument was commissioned to express gratitude for Portugal being spared the horrors of World War II. Designed by Francisco Franco de Sousa, it features a 28-meter statue of Jesus Christ atop an 82-meter pedestal. Visitors can access the monument via a short drive from Lisbon and take an elevator to the viewing platform for expansive views of Lisbon and beyond. The site includes a chapel at the base for quiet reflection.
