Chimney Rock

Chimney Rock is a geological and historical landmark located in western Nebraska, United States. Standing at approximately 325 feet above the surrounding area, it served as a significant landmark for pioneers traveling on the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails in the mid-19th century.

Designated as a National Historic Site in 1956, Chimney Rock is composed primarily of Brule clay with layers of volcanic ash and Arikaree sandstone. The site is accessible via Highway 92, near the town of Bayard. Visitors can explore the interpretive center which provides exhibits on the emigrant trails and the geological history of the monument.
