Capitol Reef National Park, located in south-central Utah, covers approximately 241,904 acres. Established in 1971, it features a 100-mile wrinkle in the Earth's crust known as the Waterpocket Fold. The park showcases geological formations, diverse flora, and historic petroglyphs.

The Waterpocket Fold is a monocline, a geologic formation that formed 50-70 million years ago. Capitol Reef also includes the historical Fruita district, where early settlers planted orchards, some of which are still maintained.
