Abu Simbel is an archaeological site in southern Egypt, consisting of two massive rock temples built during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BCE. The complex features colossal statues reaching up to 20 meters in height and intricate carvings depicting historical events.

Constructed between 1264 and 1244 BCE, the temples were relocated in 1968 to prevent submersion by Lake Nasser, created by the Aswan High Dam. The site is accessible via a short flight or a 280-kilometer drive from Aswan. The temples are renowned for their alignment, allowing sunlight to illuminate the inner sanctum twice annually.
